The Method

Intro

The Life Sommelier Method is a way to train your inner perception using the language of wine and the five senses.

This method stems from a simple intuition: if we know how to taste a wine calmly, we can also “taste” decisions, emotions and moments in life. Through five pillars - Presence, Emotion, Metaphor, Ritual and Game - you turn the glass into a mirror and each sip into a small conversation with you.

You don't need to know about wine. You just need curiosity and the desire to slow down a bit. On this page you will find a brief explanation of each pillar and a mini practice to try it today.

Presence

What is

Presence is learning to slow down before tasting. It is the pillar that invites you to be in the body: to breathe, to look, to smell... without rushing to the next sip or the next thought. It is the conscious pause before any important decision.

Mini practice

Before drinking, put your feet flat on the floor, take three slow breaths and look at the wine in silence for 10 seconds. Ask yourself, “Where am I right now, really?”. Then, and only then, take the first sip.

Excitement

What is

Emotion is the bridge between what you feel and what you choose. This pillar helps you listen to your body's reactions when you taste a wine: openings, rejections, tingles, knots. By learning to name them without judging them, you discover that many of your daily decisions are also born from those invisible nuances that you almost never look at head-on.

Mini practice

Take a small sip and, before swallowing, ask yourself: “What emotion is coming up now? Choose just one word: calm, anxiety, curiosity, nostalgia... Repeat it mentally as you swallow. Do the same later with an everyday situation and see if the word resembles or changes.

Metaphor

What is

Metaphor turns wine into language to talk about you. Instead of looking for technical descriptors, you invent images, scenes, characters. What you project in the glass often reveals what occupies you inside: fears, desires, memories. This pillar invites you to play with this poetic translation between what you taste and what you experience.

Mini practice

Taste the wine and complete this sentence without thinking too much: “This wine is like...”. It can be a city, a person, a season of the year. Write it down or say it out loud. Then ask yourself, “What is it about that image that is also present in my life right now?”.

Ritual

What is

Ritual is the way to give a framework and meaning to everyday life. It is not about complicating life with rigid ceremonies, but choosing a few conscious gestures that mark a before and after. In wine and in life, this pillar helps you to create small anchors that remind you of what you want to take care of and how you want to be present.

Mini practice

Choose a simple gesture that you will always do before pouring wine: tidy the table, calmly wash a glass, light a candle or leave your cell phone in another room. Do it today as if it were a small ceremonial opening and see if it changes the way you experience the glass and the conversation.

Game

What is

Play brings lightness back to what you sometimes take too seriously. This pillar invites you to make mistakes, to try, to laugh at your prejudices and to let go of the need to get it right. When you play with wine - comparing, imagining, improvising - you also train a more curious and flexible attitude towards your relationships, your projects and your decisions.

Mini practice

Pour two different wines in glasses without looking at the labels. Taste both and give them an invented name: it can be a nickname, a song title, a character. Then look at what they were and laugh at your associations. Stay with the question, “What if I could indulge in this same game in other areas of my life?”.
